I’ve known Raj for 19 years. We grew up in the Bronx, same neighborhood, and went to the same school together. For as long as I’ve know him, he’s been consistent with giving an individual or a group of people a memorable experience. Last night…..HE DELIVERED.
After 2 years and 9 months of dating his girl Melissa Martinez, he proposed…but not just any kind of proposal…he had most of his immediate close friends, and what felt like the entire Times Square of NYC watching, cheering, crying, photographing and screaming CONGRATS!
All I can say is that he’s made it pretty damn hard for most men/women to compete with how he proposed. I witnessed couples studying his strategy…nudging their partner with admiration and the look of “Oh why can’t you do that for me?” LOL!
My friend Raj has some mutha f’ing swag! He and another longtime friend, Arcenis Rojas hired a Doo-wop band to sing Melissa’s favorite song “Just My Imagination”, by The Temptations. But…wait…Melissa didn’t know they were hired. Also, I showed up a little early to the location (TKTS staircase). When I arrived, Raj and Melissa spotted me…. AKWARD! I had to role-play and pretend I was meeting my boyfriend….otherwise she would have suspected something, and I didn’t want to be the friend that blew his plan.
Anyway, back to the Doo-wop group. So they started to sing for the general public, then to her individually. Arcenis asked, “Hey don’t you like Doo-wop?” Melissa says: “Yeah I love Doo-wop. They’re singing my favorite song!”
Interesting…. Melissa was still unaware that Raj’s friends were in on his plan. Suddenly, the Doo-wop group began to sing to her. I looked around and there were about 100 strangers surrounding us. It was magical.
NOW, CUE RAJ.
He gave one of the best proposal speeches I’ve heard! Damn near, made everyone cry. And what did Melissa say?
She said YES!!!…of course she would
And my, oh my…what a RING he planted on her small hand. You did well bro.
Congrats to you both! Much love and light.
